A Legacy Built in Albuquerque
BMC Roof Maintenance was founded in the late 1980s by Mike Harris, a hardworking entrepreneur known for his dedication to quality craftsmanship and strong customer relationships. With a skilled crew and a reputation for accountability, Mike built a company that homeowners and businesses across New Mexico learned to trust.
But what truly made BMC special was never just the roofs. It was the relationships.
Mike believed in taking care of people, whether that meant customers, employees, or his own family. He worked hard, built a thriving business, and still made time for weekends at the lake and the people who mattered most.
After Mike was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the early 2000s, his daughter Charlotte Ortiz and son-in-law Paul Ortiz stepped into leadership roles within the company. Under their guidance, BMC Roofing continued to grow while maintaining the values and customer-first mindset Mike had established from the beginning.
Charlotte brought a lifetime of industry experience along with a background in business and entrepreneurship from the Anderson School of Management at UNM. Paul learned the business directly alongside Mike, mastering every aspect of roofing operations from maintenance and repairs to project management and customer care. Together, they helped strengthen BMC’s reputation as a company known for honesty, accountability, and quality work.
The relationships built by Mike, Charlotte, and Paul remain an important part of BMC Roofing’s story today. Their commitment to the community, their customers, and their team helped shape the foundation the company continues to build upon.

In 2026, Otto and Erika Staudt became the owners of BMC Roofing, committed to preserving the company’s reputation for quality workmanship, honest service, and strong community relationships that have been built over more than 40 years.
Otto brings more than 25 years of hands-on construction and roofing experience spanning labor, project management, estimating, operations, and business ownership. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for practical expertise, strong leadership, and treating customers with honesty and respect. Erika’s background in communications, marketing, and business operations helps ensure every customer receives responsive service, clear communication, and a positive experience from the first phone call through project completion.
Together, Otto and Erika are passionate about carrying forward the legacy established by Mike Harris and continued by Charlotte and Paul Ortiz. Their vision for BMC Roofing is rooted in the same values that have guided the company for decades: honest recommendations, quality workmanship, strong customer relationships, and long-term support for the homeowners and businesses they serve.
As parents raising three young boys in New Mexico, Otto and Erika understand how important it is to protect the places where families live, work, and create memories. Whether they’re skiing and mountain biking in Angel Fire, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with family in Albuquerque, they value the relationships and sense of community that make New Mexico such a special place to call home.
